Who am I?

My name is Chris Attig. That picture of me was taken when I first started publishing the Veterans Law Blog® in 2007.

I served in the US Army from 1993 – 2004.

I was a Fire Support Team Leader in the Republic of Korea, a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Platoon Leader, and Asst. S-3 for a Field Artillery Battalion.

I spent time at Ft. Bragg, Ft. Knox, Ft. Hood, Ft. Benning, and Camp Casey (Korea). I like to think I was focused on accomplishing my mission, even then: after a parachute malfunction on my first jump from a C-141, and a little bit of facial surgery, I went right back into Airborne school and got my wings.

I’ve experienced failure, too, and pulled myself out of it. After recycling at US Army Ranger School, I never did graduate, but I learned that success has very little to do with desire, and everything to do with hard work, preparation, and showing up every single day.

I am also an accredited VA attorney – I got so HACKED at the VA when they denied my claim for an obvious injury in military service that I shut down a lucrative employment law practice and took a HUGE pay cut to help Veterans battle the VA in their own claims and appeals.  (I am the lowest paid employee at my firm, and keep my pay at the same level as Veterans that are 100% disabled….so I NEVER forget how it feels).

Since 2007, I have represented a lot of Veterans before VA Regional Offices, the Board of Veterans Appeals, the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals since 2007.

Here’s Why I Do What I Do on the Veterans Law Blog®.

I left the Army in 2004, and first learned about the VA Benefits system 3 years later.

Turns out that some of the permanent injuries I sustained due to – in part – jumping out of airplanes  (one nasty jump left me with some nice scars across my face), entitled me to VA benefits.

But I could not figure out for the life of me how to properly file and develop a VA claim, what to expect in the VA Claims process, or how to get the claim decided in under 3 years.

At least not without spending hours poring over what were then obscure websites, loaded up more with anti-VA rants than with information to help navigate the VA Claims Process.

After struggling in my own VA claim, I decided to change that.

And so the Veterans Law Blog® was born in June 2007.

Fast forward to 2019….

The Veterans Law Blog® is now the largest and longest running blog on Veterans Benefits, written by a VA Accredited Attorney, and focusing entirely on Title 38 Claims for Service Connected Disability.

On these pages, you will find over 677 posts of free information, teaching Veterans:

* How to file VA claims

* How to introduce evidence into your VA claim

* How to argue your claim more persuasively.

* How to understand Court decisions

* How to fill out forms

* How to prepare for hearings

And more.

You’ll also find several published Veterans Law Field Manuals (ebooks) – and several full length training videos – at the Veterans Law Blog® store.
